The Cage
I open my eyes, find myself sprawled upon a smooth metal floor.
The blistering sun surrounds the cage, heat waves simmering around me.
The view is obstructed by sturdy metal bars, extending from floor to roof.
There is no one in sight, just an empty desert surrounding me and the
cage.
After a while, nobody comes, nobody will save me from dying here.
Anxiety becomes panic, panic becomes rage, rage becomes insanity.
I try to rip open the bars that separate me from the wasteland,
I try with all of my strength. The harder I try, the weaker I
become.
A flood of frustration permeates me, the more I try to become free,
the more I realize that my efforts are in vain. There is no escape
for me.
There is no freedom from this cage. The heat is torrid, my strength
is escaping me.
There's nothing left to do, so I wait here to die.
