September 11, 2001… a day that I will never forget.

Today, Four airplanes were hijacked.  Two of those crashed into the World Trade Center buildings in New York City.  Another plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington DC.  The other crashed in a rural area in Pennsylvania; it has been speculated that this plane may have been shot down by the military.

An estimated 50,000 people work in the World Trade Center buildings.  Those buildings housed a lot of companies, including a brokerage firm I used to work for.  No, I won’t mention the name of it… you’ll figure out why as I get into this post, but it was in the South Tower.  You figure it out.

How many people have died?  These are the numbers as of right now

-At least 266 were killed aboard the hijacked aircraft

-78 missing police officers (in one of the collapsed towers)

-200 firefighters (in one of the collapsed towers)

-The number of Trade Center employees and visitors dead is currently unknown.  “Too much to bare.”

-The number of people killed in the Pentagon:  I don’t know.  I just know that there were 20,000 people working there.

This certainly upsets me, as it should upset anyone with a conscience, a heart.  I had worked for that brokerage firm located in the South Tower.  I dealt with those people on a semi-regular basis.  At one time, I had pondered the idea of relocating to the World Trade Center office if I was with that company long enough.  By this time, I probably would have been.  There was a certain senior VP at the brokerage firm that I sort of knew, Tom.

Tom was a really good guy, though since he was from New York, he probably swore enough to upset the Mormons a little.  There was this female coworker of mine who was being sexually harassed by our immediate supervisor.  I stood up for her… nobody else did, except Tom.  I think we both got our asses kicked since this supervisor of ours had a lot more political contacts within the company.  Our lives were made miserable for a while… I ended up quitting because I stood up for what was right (figures, huh?).  Tom got transferred back to New York about a year ago.  I suspect that Tom, this good guy, was killed today either by one of the planes that slammed into the building, or by the collapsing building.  I don’t know for sure, but I’ll find out sooner or later.  Those people that I dealt with on a semi-regular basis are probably dead too.

YOU FUCKING BASTARDS!!!  YOU KILLED PEOPLE I KNEW, PEOPLE I WORKED WITH!

Who is responsible for this?  The media and the government is pointing to Osama bin Laden.  I don’t know is this is really true, or just a scape-goat.  He seems like an easy target…  point the finger at a popular terrorist and you have a good target for your hatred.  Did he do it?  I guess we’ll find out sooner or later, now won’t we?

With so many people killed, we will need to strike back quickly.  The blood lust of this great nation must be satisfied, even though we don’t know for sure if our target is even the right man.  As long as we bomb the shit out of somebody soon, we’ll be happy.

CONGRESS WILL DECLARE WAR TOMORROW

Yes, this is the message I’ve heard from the new channels.  We will declare war… on whom?  Well, if it turns out to be bin Laden, the United States will hold Afghanistan responsible as well.  Why?  The Taliban is harboring the known terrorist.  How the hell should I know this is true?  I just hear the propaganda the news feeds to us.  What will probably happen?  We will send our troops over and

BOMB THE SHIT OUT OF INNOCENT CIVILIANS

Does this sound right?  We are probably going to launch an all-out attack.  We won’t care who we kill along the way as long as we get to the target.  Let’s just hope this doesn’t happen.  Let’s just hope we don’t become as bad as they are, whoever they may be.  We do need to find the group responsible for this and make sure they pay.

You don’t have the right to kill civilians, no matter what your cause is.  You don’t have a right to decide if an innocent person is going to die.  Whoever you are, you don’t have the right to attack people who have never done anything to you.  Yes, your attack against the Pentagon was probably justified in your eyes, but the World Trade Center?  Come on.

I teared up when congress sang God Bless America… but I’m an atheist.

The footage of the planes smacking into the towers, the buildings collapsing, the people fleeing brought me great sorrow.  This is terrible.

“There they go now, there go all my friends
There they go now, marching off to war again
With their bright flags waving in the wind
There they go now, marching off to war again
Smiling proudly, with their heads in the clouds.”

-Boingo

Yes, tomorrow we will declare war.  Things can only get worse from here.  Why?  Cut the head off this creature and it’ll grow four more.  The terrorism will come back in force.  Dubya and Congress will decide to bomb the living shit out of somebody and many more people will come to the aid of the enemy.  How do we solve this problem?  There is no quick solution…  there needs to be some sort of retaliation from our part, but that doesn’t solve the long-term problem, does it?

THE WORLD HATES THE UNITED STATES

Why?

We only care about ourselves.  Did we care when Russia was terrorized last year?  I hardly remember the news mentioning it…  Now, the United States gets bombed and the whole world takes notice.  The trading markets around the world sink now, and everyone displays their sympathy.  What about those Israelis and Palestinians… “They’ve always been fighting, why should we help them?”

The United States failed to endorse the Kyoto Protocol.  Sure, it’s fine if we pollute the planet to hell.

The United States gets involved in stupid little conflicts that are none of our business.  Let’s bomb the shit out of Iraq to keep our oil prices low!  Let’s station troops all over the world so we can get involved in anything, no matter how remote, in a matter of minutes.  You never know when we will need to launch a pre-emptive strike against… New Zealand!  We’re not really keeping the world stability, we’re keeping our superiority over the rest of the world.

We rely too much on the world’s oil supply, and we bitch and moan when gas prices go up a little.  Hell, Europe pays a lot more for gas than we do, but if our gas goes up ten cents, we get every redneck crawling out of their trailers complaining about how they’re not going to be able to afford food for their ten children.  We then complain to OPEC, who reluctantly increases oil production.  I imagine they hate us because we force them to lower their price on oil.

These are just some of the problems, but they can be fixed.

The United States needs to stop trying to control the world.  We need to drop their reliance on oil and start using more solar, wind, and hydrogen power.  We need to help the rest of the world save itself by approving things like the Kyoto Protocol.  Sure, it’ll cost more, but what’s more important than the long-term health of the planet?  We are going to scrap the International Ballistic Missile Treaty so we can build a worthless missile defense that can’t protect us against things like terrorist attacks anyway.  We need to not keep spy planes flying off the coast of China all the time.  I think the rest of the world would be happier if we played fair.

I know, I have probably lost my focus by now, but these things had to be said.  I think it has been a long, draining day for all of us.  I don’t know what tomorrow will bring… but I fear for the worst.  I just hope the sun doesn’t rise tomorrow, only to discover that we have been attacked again…
