Here we go, a dive into geekdom: In my humble opinion, the Star Trek movies, rated from best to worst:

  • Star Trek: First Contact
  • Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
  • Star Trek: Nemesis
  • Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
  • Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
  • Star Trek: Generations
  • Star Trek: The Motion Picture
  • Star Trek: Insurrection
  • Star Trek III: The Search For Spock
  • Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

Okay, as you may have guessed, I just saw Nemesis…  a dismally-rated film, and it’ll probably kill the movie franchise for ten years.  Though I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, I do think the series needs a long rest.

Spoilers be here, ahoy.  (If you haven’t seen the movie and don’t want to spoil the story, don’t read on, otherwise, knock yourself out)

The movie was a blast to watch, but the ending was terrible.  Data dies in what was probably one of the best heroic deaths I have seen.  Now I shall descend into uber-geekdom:  I felt pretty sad when it happened.  It wasn’t just a character that I had become attached to over the length of the movie…  the character is one that grew on me through seven years of television and four motion pictures.  I’m glad they killed him off the way they did…  I really am given the way they horribly killed of Captain Kirk.

But…  the ending:  Yes, Data’s dead, he transferred his memories to B-4.  He is reactivated.  I get the feeling that he’s going to be brought back like they brought back Spock.  It was lame and disappointing.  I felt like I had watched Unbreakable over again…  the whole movie was great until they decided to end things.  I can forgive that…  the movie gets 3.5/4 stars on my scale.

Other geeky movie tidbits about yours truly:

  • Tim Burton made the best Batman movies
  • I’m undecided on the best James Bond movie… it has been quite a while since I have seen some of them
  • The best Star Wars was The Empire Strikes Back
  • My favorite Bruce Campbell movie is Army of Darkness
  • My favorite Arnold movie is Terminator 2, then Total Recall, then Eraser
  • Any movie where Ashley Judd takes off her clothes is a good movie
  • The best Nick Cage movie is 8MM
  • My taste in horror movies isn’t nearly as refined as Sara’s
  • The best Indiana Jones movie is The Last Crusade
