Lately, I’ve had some good photography projects… most notable are photographing Dana’s wedding and doing a shoot for City Weekly.  Both of these experiences lately have strengthened my conviction of want I want to do with my life.

Starting off with the wedding…  the wedding itself was pretty beautiful and interesting.  It was held in the bride’s friend’s back yard.  Really informal; the seating consisted of lawn chairs and the ceremony was conducted by a friend of the bride’s.  The entire time of the ceremony / reception afterwards, I was taking pictures.  I was hired to do the photojournalist thing, rather than trying to capture mostly formal portraiture.  The entire time I was taking pictures, I felt incredibly fulfilled…  I am meant to be behind a camera.

No, I’m not saying I should be doing wedding photography for a living, but doing it several times a month would be a-ok by me.  I’m at my best when I’m doing documentary photography, capturing a scene rather than trying to create it.  Maybe this won’t always be the case, but I do enjoy capturing the world around me.

My other recent photo project was doing a shoot for City Weekly.  The freelance writer I’ve worked with before, Kelly, asked me to do some portraits of a woman who is a regular extra on Everwood.  I was asked to capture her doing her artistic thing… in this case, it was calligraphy.  I think I did a damned good job, but if you haven’t seen the photos already, it’ll just have to wait about 5 days until the new issue comes out, or you can just bug me and maybe I’ll show you.

I feel fulfilled and at home when I’m taking pictures of something / someone.  Sort of like the way I felt at home when I was visiting France a couple of years ago.  I have a feeling it’s just a matter of time before I can make a decent living with photography.
