9/29/2001 5:30 PM I did something today that I’m not very proud of. Let me just start out by saying this: I am against guns, any type of weapons really. Why? I think it is horrible that human beings feel the need to hurt and kill each other. If the world was my utopia, there would be no guns, chemical weapons, biological weapons, and nuclear weapons. We wouldn’t wage war against our own kind…
I bought a handgun today. It’s
a Glock 17, 9mm. Why did I do
this? Home protection and
security. That’s all there
is to it. I hope that I will
never, ever have to use this thing against a human being.
The thought of taking someone’s life away, their experiences,
hopes, fears, history, love, humanity away makes me sick.
How the hell does one decide whether or not another human being is
going to live or die? It’s
just not right… The world we live in isn’t right… I know, this was a hypocritical thing of me to do, very hypocritical. What happens if someone breaks into your home and threatens your life? What do you do? The world just isn’t right nowadays. Trade Centers being bombed, terrorist organizations having things like anthrax and sarin nerve gas, violence everywhere, the threat of war being imminent. Isn’t it best to be prepared for those situations that you hope will never happen, but trying to live your life as normal? Maybe… someday, humanity will not fight amongst itself. We will be united towards a common goal of bettering ourselves, exploring the universe and ourselves. That was Gene Roddenberry’s vision of our species. Will it ever happen? I sure hope so. Well, I never thought I’d own a gun, here goes one of my principles… |
